Typical price ranges
These are the ranges we quote most often across Liverpool, Sefton and West Lancashire. Every job is priced on site or from photos, but this gives you a realistic starting point.
- Small tree (up to around 6m, open access) — £150 to £350
- Medium tree (6–12m, garden access) — £350 to £750
- Large tree (12m+, section dismantle over property) — £750 to £1,800
- Stump grinding on top of a removal — £60 to £200 per stump
- Emergency / storm make-safe call-out — £180 upwards depending on hours and risk
What actually drives the price
Size matters, but access usually matters more. A 10-metre tree at the bottom of a terraced garden with a 76cm side gate takes longer than a bigger tree we can drop and drag straight onto a chipper.
- Access — can the chipper and van get near the drop zone, or is everything carried out by hand?
- Drop zone — open lawn versus greenhouses, conservatories, power lines and neighbours' sheds
- Species and condition — dead, brittle or storm-split trees are slower and riskier to climb
- Waste volume — a heavy conifer produces far more chip than a thin ash of the same height
- Permissions — Conservation Area notice or a TPO application adds lead time (we don't charge extra for the paperwork)
Ways to bring the cost down
You don't have to cut corners to cut the bill. A few practical choices genuinely reduce the labour on the day.
- Keep the logs — if you have a wood burner, leaving cordwood on site saves us loading and tipping
- Leave the chip — chip makes free mulch for borders and paths
- Bundle jobs — hedges, a second tree and stump grinding on the same visit is cheaper than three separate ones
- Book outside storm season — winter and late summer diaries are usually more flexible
- Clear the access route yourself before we arrive
Warning signs in a cheap quote
A price that looks too good usually means something is missing. Before you accept any quote, check these.
- No public liability insurance certificate offered
- Waste 'disposal' with no registered carrier or tip route explained
- Verbal-only quote with no written scope of works
- No mention of TPO or Conservation Area checks
- Topping offered as a cheap alternative to a proper crown reduction
Common questions
Is a free quote really free?
Yes. We quote free of charge either from photos sent over WhatsApp or by visiting the property. There is no obligation and no call-out fee for quoting.
Do you charge extra for difficult access?
Access is priced into the quote rather than added afterwards. The quote you accept is the price you pay unless the scope of work changes.
Is stump grinding included in tree removal?
Not by default — it's a separate machine and a separate visit in some cases. We'll price it alongside the removal so you can decide.
